Tejashwi Yadav Urges Bihar Government to Ensure Job Security for Contract Teachers

Tejashwi Yadav calls for immediate action to protect the jobs of contract teachers in Bihar following Supreme Court rulings.

Patna, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and national executive president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has written to Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, demanding job security for the state’s contract teachers. He urged the government to file a review petition in the Supreme Court promptly and to issue clear directives to halt actions such as the termination of affected teachers and the withholding of their salaries.

In his letter, Yadav highlighted that a Supreme Court order from July 28, 2026, along with a letter from the Director of Primary Education dated October 1, 2026, has put thousands of contract teachers in Bihar, particularly those appointed after March 31, 2015, in a precarious position. This situation has also created fear and uncertainty among special Urdu and Bengali teachers appointed during the 2015-16 academic year.

He clarified that the hiring of these special teachers was not a new initiative but a continuation of a process that began in 2014, compliant with judicial orders and departmental guidelines. Thus, it would be unjust to dismiss these teachers solely based on their appointment dates.

Yadav pointed out that many affected teachers have completed their training, passed competency exams, and are currently serving as special teachers, head teachers, or school teachers. He called for their qualifications and current positions to be taken into account for job protection.

He further stated that any discrepancies in the hiring records or merit lists of teachers should be the responsibility of the relevant hiring units. It is unfair to penalize teachers and their families for administrative errors.

Yadav demanded that the government immediately suspend any actions related to salary withholding, dismissals, or terminations until a decision is made on the review petition. He also urged for accountability among officials responsible for errors in hiring records and suggested legal amendments if necessary.

He emphasized that the future of thousands of teacher families hangs in the balance, urging the government to intervene promptly, considering humanitarian, judicial, and administrative aspects to prevent injustice against any teacher.
