Shanghai, May 25: TCL’s FFALCON brand has introduced the Thunderobot Q5AD YYDS Edition monitor in China. This 24.5-inch 1080p display boasts an impressive 300Hz refresh rate, priced at just 599 yuan (approximately $88). It is designed as a budget-friendly option for gamers focused on competitive PC shooters.
Thunderobot Q5AD Monitor Specifications
While 1080p may not be the highest resolution available today, a 24.5-inch 1080p screen remains the standard for esports. Gamers playing titles like Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, or Overwatch prioritize high frame rates and low latency over 4K visuals.
The monitor features a Fast IPS panel produced by CSOT. It operates natively at 280Hz but can be overclocked to 300Hz when connected via DisplayPort. Thunderobot claims a 1ms gray-to-gray response time, along with built-in overdrive and motion blur reduction settings (MPRT-Plus) to ensure clarity during fast-paced action.
For a budget monitor, the color performance is commendable. It supports 10-bit color (using 8-bit + FRC) and covers 99% of the sRGB color space, as well as 93% of DCI-P3. Thunderobot states that the monitors are factory-calibrated to a Delta E of less than 2, ensuring reasonably accurate colors right out of the box. The monitor also features a peak brightness of 400 nits and basic HDR400 support.
The design is straightforward but includes practical features for gamers. The stand has a compact, hexagonal base that allows for more desk space for larger mousepads and wide mouse movements. However, it only offers basic tilt adjustments (from -5° to 15°), lacking height or pivot adjustments. To minimize eye strain during extended gaming sessions, the display incorporates hardware-level low blue light filtering and DC dimming to reduce flicker.
On the software front, it supports AMD FreeSync Premium and is compatible with Nvidia G-Sync to prevent screen tearing. Additional gaming features include a dark scene booster for better visibility in shadows and a dynamic crosshair.
The monitor’s port selection is minimal but functional, including one DisplayPort 1.4 (necessary for the 300Hz refresh rate), one HDMI 2.0 port (limited to 240Hz), and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Users can navigate the monitor’s settings through a standard five-way joystick located on the back.
In related news, Thunderobot has also launched the 25Q5A gaming monitor, which features a 1080p 300Hz Mini LED display.
