
Orleans, March 20: Indian shuttler Tanvi Sharma has secured her place in the semifinals of the Orleans Masters 2026. In a thrilling match lasting 43 minutes, she defeated Japan’s sixth seed Natsuki Nidaira with a score of 21-14, 21-14.
In the semifinals, Tanvi will face Japan’s fifth seed and Olympic bronze medalist Nozomi Okuhara. This match poses a significant challenge for Tanvi, who aims to reach the finals of the BWF Super 300 event for the second time.
Meanwhile, India’s Hariharan Amaskarunan and M.R. Arjun were eliminated from the tournament after losing to Indonesia’s third-seeded pair in the quarterfinals.
Earlier, both Tanvi and the men’s doubles duo of Hariharan and Arjun showcased impressive performances to advance to the next round. Tanvi, a silver medalist at the World Junior Championships, had a strong start by defeating Thailand’s second seed Supanida Katethong in the round of 16. She also overcame fellow emerging player Anmol Kharab with a score of 21-14, 21-17 to secure her spot in the next stage.
In the men’s doubles, Hariharan and Arjun achieved a remarkable victory over Scotland’s Alexander Dunn and Adam Pringle. The Indian pair won a tightly contested first game 26-24 and dominated the second game 21-14, completing the match in just 35 minutes to reach the quarterfinals.
Additionally, in the first round, Alarshi Kashyap lost in straight games to Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min, who is ranked 33rd in the world.
In mixed doubles, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde will face France’s top-seeded pair T. Giquel and Delphine Delarue. Meanwhile, India’s eighth-seeded Ayush Shetty will compete against Japan’s Yudai Okimoto in the men’s singles round of 16. Tanvi Sharma was also part of the Indian team that participated in the Badminton Asia Team Championships held in Qingdao, China.
India’s campaign in the team event ended when the women’s team faced a 0-3 defeat against the strong Chinese team, considered the title favorites. Tanvi Sharma played a crucial role in India’s victory over Myanmar in the Badminton Asia Team Championships, winning her first singles match 21-13, 21-16.
