Tamil Nadu CM Announces Jobs for Jallikattu Champions, New Vet Centre in Alanganallur

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin made significant announcements aimed at strengthening the traditional sport of Jallikattu during the world-famous Alanganallur Jallikattu event held as part of the Pongal festivities.

The Chief Minister declared that top Jallikattu players who tame the most bulls will be given priority for government jobs in the animal husbandry and allied departments. Additionally, a state-of-the-art veterinary treatment and training centre for Jallikattu bulls will be established in Alanganallur at a cost of Rs 2 crore.

These announcements were made during the Chief Minister’s visit to Alanganallur to observe the Jallikattu competition, a key highlight of the Pongal festival. Stalin travelled from Chennai to Madurai, where he was received by Minister Murthy and District Collector Praveen Kumar. He then proceeded to a specially arranged platform near Vadivasal to witness the event.

The Jallikattu season began on January 15 at Avaniyapuram, followed by a major event in Palamedu on Friday. Both venues saw enthusiastic participation from experienced bulls and skilled players. Winners, along with bull owners, were awarded valuable prizes such as cars and tractors, underscoring the sport’s importance.

During the Alanganallur event, Chief Minister Stalin honoured the winning bull handlers and bull owners by presenting them with gold rings. In his address, he extended Pongal and New Year greetings and described Madurai as the land of heroes. He emphasised that the globally renowned Alanganallur Jallikattu symbolises the indomitable courage and pride of Tamil people.

Stalin highlighted the Dravidian model of governance by mentioning projects like the Kalaignar Centenary Library and Kalaignar Centenary Climbing Stadium, which reflect the government’s commitment to spreading knowledge and preserving Tamil heritage. He stressed that alongside such initiatives, protecting and promoting traditional sports like Jallikattu remains a government priority.

Concluding his speech, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the new measures would boost the morale of players and ensure better care for indigenous bull breeds. Calling for unity and progress, he reaffirmed the government’s dedication to advancing Tamil traditions with welfare and development, stating, “Together, all Tamils will succeed and move forward.”
