Patiala, March 7: Two-time Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor clinched the gold medal in the men’s shot put event at the fifth Indian Open Throw Competition held at the National Institute of Sports campus in Patiala on Saturday.
The 31-year-old shot putter achieved a remarkable throw of 20.51 meters, marking the best performance of the season. After the competition, Toor expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I am happy with my performance.”
Out of six attempts, Toor surpassed the 20-meter mark three times. His other throws measured 20.02 meters and 20.07 meters, while three attempts did not yield any marks.
In June 2023, Toor set a national record with a throw of 21.17 meters. His primary goal for this season is to peak for the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, later this year, where he aims to defend his title.
The event also featured hammer thrower Damneet Singh, who represented Reliance in the weekend competition. Singh’s best throw was 70.64 meters, just shy of the national record of 70.73 meters. His other throws included 69.29 meters, 70.21 meters, a foul, 70.04 meters, and 67.57 meters.
