New Delhi, March 13: In a rapid response, police from the RK Puram station apprehended three suspects just minutes after a robbery attempt in the South West district of Delhi. The arrested individuals include two adults and one minor.
The adults have been identified as Nitesh (24) and Bipin (22), both residents of Ambedkar Basti in Sector-01, RK Puram. Authorities recovered a stolen mobile phone, cash, and a wallet filled with important documents, along with the Activa scooter used in the crime.
The incident occurred around 3:30 AM on March 11. The victim, M. Singh, was walking home after finishing his shift at a restaurant in Kirti Nagar. As he approached a dustbin near the Hyatt Hotel at Bhikaji Cama Place, three young men on a light blue Activa scooter called out to him, addressing him as “Uncle.”
Suddenly, two of the suspects dismounted the scooter and grabbed Singh, while the third slapped him. Together, they struggled with him, forcibly taking his mobile phone and wallet, which contained cash and essential documents like his Aadhaar card, voter ID, and ATM card. During the altercation, Singh’s pants pocket was torn as he attempted to resist.
Immediately after the incident, Singh shouted for help, attracting the attention of a police patrol vehicle passing by. He quickly informed the officers on duty. Head Constable Shashi Kapoor Meena and Constable Parveen Yadav acted without delay, pursuing the fleeing suspects on their scooter.
Upon noticing the police vehicle, the suspects initially fled towards the Munirka flyover but changed direction back towards Sector-1 at a T-point. The officers skillfully continued their chase, cornering the suspects’ scooter near a taxi stand, about 50-60 meters before the Sector-1 crossing. In their attempt to escape, the suspects lost control of the scooter and fell onto the road, sustaining minor injuries. The police swiftly subdued them.
During questioning, the suspects were identified as Nitesh, Bipin, and the minor. The police recovered the stolen mobile phone, cash, and the wallet filled with identification documents. The Activa scooter used in the robbery was also seized. An FIR has been registered at the RK Puram police station, and legal action is underway against the suspects. The police are currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
