Surat Companies Embrace Work From Home, Boosting Carpooling and Public Transport

Surat, May 15: The impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation is now evident in the corporate sector. Several IT companies in Surat have adopted a ‘Work From Home’ policy, significantly reducing the need for employees to commute to the office. Companies report that this shift not only saves fuel but also encourages carpooling and the use of public transport.

Kunal Shah, CEO of Biz Insights in Surat, shared his insights with a news agency. “Following Prime Minister Modi’s appeal, we are diligently implementing this policy. Previously, 100% of our staff worked from the office, but now we have allowed about 70% to work from home. Only team members working on urgent projects are required to come in,” he stated.

One employee mentioned, “I work in the IT sector, and some of our staff have been given the option to work from home. We come to the office only when it’s necessary to discuss or understand a project.”

He added that he discussed this with his family and decided to travel with his father or brother instead of using separate vehicles, thus reducing fuel consumption. “Everyone should do this,” he emphasized.

Another employee, currently interning at an IT company, shared, “I travel about 15-20 kilometers to work. I usually carpool with a friend, but sometimes we use public transport or occasionally a private cab.”

A different employee noted, “After the Prime Minister’s appeal, our IT company implemented the ‘Work From Home’ policy. I come from Bardoli, so I only come to the office when immediate attention is needed on a project. Even then, I prefer using public transport.”
