Washington, December 8: Indian-American entrepreneur and community leader Sunny Reddy has been elected as the co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party. This marks a significant achievement for the Indian community amid intense political competition in the United States.
Michigan Republican Party Chairman Jim Runestad said the decision to appoint a co-chair was made after careful consideration. He praised Sunny Reddy for his grassroots energy, access to donors, and rare combination of personal integrity.
Runestad stated, “He is a hard-working individual, and honestly, I don’t know anyone who works harder than Sunny. He has been to every part of Michigan and genuinely cares about every corner of the state.”
He added that Reddy’s influence runs deep within Michigan’s Indian-American community. “I was amazed that at one of our events, 600 people and their families came to take pictures with Sunny Reddy. He is like the biggest celebrity in the entire Indian community,” Runestad said.
Runestad described Reddy as the best man he has known and often hears that Sunny quietly supports community needs without seeking attention.
The nomination process was quickly closed, and the motion to approve Reddy by unanimous consent was passed with everyone present agreeing.
On being announced as co-chair, Sunny Reddy became emotional on stage and spoke about what this means for Indian Americans in Michigan. He said, “Can you believe it? I am the first Indian American ever to be elected to any post as a Republican in Michigan.”
He promised to work hard every day with party leaders. Reddy said, “We are heading into one of the most critical election years in Michigan’s history. President Trump is fighting to restore America’s strength and security, but the Democrats are determined to stop him. Michigan is the number one target for both the RNC and Democrats.”
Important elections are coming up in Michigan for governor, attorney general, secretary of state, the US Senate, and several education board seats. Reddy stated, “As co-chair, my commitment is simple. I will work very hard to help us win. I will raise resources, support candidates, and help build a strong Republican team for President Trump and Michigan.”
He emphasized, “Unity, discipline, and strong determination will pave the way for the party’s victory in 2026.” The rapidly growing Indian-American population in Michigan is among the most politically active communities. Reddy has made a mark not only in politics but also in social service, raising millions of dollars for COVID-19 relief, disaster aid, and support for families of first responders.
