Sukanta Majumdar Claims Change in Durga Puja Atmosphere After Government Shift in Bengal
Sukanta Majumdar discusses the shift in Durga Puja celebrations and political dynamics in West Bengal following the government change.

Panihati, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : Central Minister Sukanta Majumdar, representing the Balurghat constituency, recently addressed the media in Panihati. He spoke about the notable changes in the atmosphere surrounding Durga Puja celebrations after the shift in West Bengal’s government. He also commented on the political activism of actor Imran Khan, the Supreme Court‘s inquiries regarding Gyanesh Kumar, and the five-day judicial custody of CJP leaders Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
Regarding the judicial custody of the CJP leaders, Majumdar stated, “This is a court order, and there’s nothing you or I can do about it. If the court has ordered judicial custody, it is entirely a matter for the judiciary, and we cannot take any action against the court’s decision.”
When asked about the opposition’s repeated electoral defeats, he remarked, “In a democracy, it is everyone’s right to approach the Supreme Court. However, the opposition has faced continuous losses for years. The Home Minister presented data showing how long Congress has been out of power in various states. Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner, just took office a year ago.”
Majumdar emphasized the transformation in the Durga Puja ambiance, saying, “The atmosphere during Durga Puja reflects that the government has changed. Previously, we heard the call to prayer. Today, the pandals showcase freedom fighters, ‘Vande Mataram’, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, and Veer Savarkar. Bengal, once known for nationalism and patriotism, is returning to its roots.”
He noted that during the fight against the British, the warriors led by Savarkar are now being recognized. “Bengal is a cradle of patriotism and sacrifice, and it is moving in that direction once again,” he added.
On Imran Khan’s involvement in the CJP movement despite his foreign citizenship, Majumdar stated, “If you are a citizen of the U.S., you can participate in their politics. I am an Indian citizen and cannot rally in another country. Imran Khan has no connection to Indian politics.”
