Student Attempts Suicide After Alleged Teacher Assault in Bengaluru School

Bengaluru, July 15: A student in the eighth grade is fighting for his life in a Bengaluru hospital after reportedly attempting suicide following alleged physical punishment and discrimination by school staff.

The incident, which surfaced on Tuesday, has sparked outrage among the student’s family, who are demanding strict action against the school management and the involved teachers. A case has been registered at the Gyanabharati police station, and an investigation is underway.

According to the parents, the boy, who is enrolled under the Right to Education (RTE) quota, had a dispute with two classmates. The matter escalated to the headmaster, after which the teachers allegedly beat the student.

The family claims that the boy sustained visible injuries and was barred from entering the school premises throughout the day. They also allege that he faced discrimination due to his admission under the RTE quota.

Unable to cope with the alleged humiliation and physical assault, the student returned home in a distressed state. His father works at a grocery store, while his mother is employed at a garment factory.

With no one at home during the incident, the boy reportedly confided in his cousin before attempting to hang himself from the ceiling fan. Fortunately, his cousin noticed something was wrong and quickly intervened, alerting family members.

The student was rushed to a private hospital in Nayandahalli, where he remains in critical condition. Doctors are treating him for severe injuries, including damage to his spine.

Distraught parents are calling for immediate intervention from authorities to hold those responsible accountable.

The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, focusing on the allegations of physical punishment and discrimination by the school administration.

As of now, the school has not issued any response regarding the incident.
