Noida, February 23: The impact of strong surface winds is clearly visible in the air quality index (AQI) across Delhi-NCR. After several days of remaining in the orange and yellow categories, some areas have now reached the green zone, providing relief from pollution for residents.
According to data from various monitoring stations associated with the Central Pollution Control Board, air quality in several regions of Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad has improved compared to previous readings. The Lodhi Road area in Delhi recorded an AQI of 99, placing it in the green category. Other areas like Mandir Marg (136), Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium (154), IIT Delhi (164), ITO (173), and Sector-62 Noida (164) remained in the yellow category.
However, some locations still recorded AQI levels in the orange category. Anand Vihar had an AQI of 274, Bawana 267, Mundka 261, Jahangirpuri 253, and Loni Ghaziabad 284. Indirapuram (237), Vasundhara (238), Ashok Vihar (236), Alipur (219), Chandni Chowk (204), CRRI Mathura Road (222), and Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range (217) also reported air quality in the orange zone.
In Noida, Sector-125 recorded an AQI of 230, while Sector-116 had 197. In Ghaziabad, Sanjay Nagar reported an AQI of 189, which falls in the yellow category. Overall, pollution levels in many areas remain between moderate and poor, but the strong winds have certainly improved the overall situation.
The weather department forecasts that the maximum temperature will hover around 30 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures ranging from 13 to 15 degrees Celsius on February 23 and 24. Light mist conditions are expected on both days. On February 25, strong surface winds are anticipated, which could further enhance air quality.
Currently, no warnings have been issued. Experts suggest that if wind speeds remain consistent, a further decline in pollution levels may be observed in the coming days. However, a gradual increase in maximum temperatures is being noted, leading to a slight warmth during the day. Overall, the strong winds have provided residents of NCR a chance to breathe easier.
