Strict Fitness Checks for School Vehicles in Uttar Pradesh from April 1-15

Lucknow, March 26: The Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, S.P. Goyal, has announced a special fitness and safety inspection campaign for school vehicles from April 1 to April 15. He emphasized that there will be no compromise on the safety of children.

During a weekly review meeting conducted via video conferencing with all divisional commissioners and district magistrates, Goyal issued several important directives. He stated that strict action should be taken against any school vehicles found unfit, ensuring the safe transportation of children at all costs.

Goyal mentioned that all schools must register their vehicle details on the Integrated School Vehicle Monitoring Portal developed by the transport department. This digital system will enhance the transparency and effectiveness of monitoring school vehicles, while real-time tracking and alert systems will ensure accountability. Transport Commissioner Kinjal Singh informed the meeting that the portal is linked to the ‘Vahan’ and ‘Sarathi’ databases, allowing for automatic verification of vehicles and drivers.

This system will monitor all documents related to fitness, insurance, and permits, while parents will also be able to check the status of the vehicles. In reviewing the “Lakhpati Didi” program, the Chief Secretary instructed that the quarterly income of women in self-help groups be recorded accurately and completely in the digital livelihood register.

He also called for regular meetings of various committees and improved coordination between departments. Regarding cow shelters, he directed the initiation of a special straw collection campaign starting April 15. Goyal insisted on strengthening local storage arrangements to ensure adequate availability of fodder, without involving middlemen in the procurement process.

Additionally, he emphasized promoting natural farming by connecting farmers with cow shelters, utilizing cow dung and urine, and establishing biogas plants. The Chief Secretary also instructed immediate surveys of losses due to unseasonal rains and hail under the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme, ensuring timely compensation for farmers.

He stated that transparent damage assessments should be conducted by forming joint committees in each gram panchayat, and the distribution of relief funds should be ensured without delay.
