
New Delhi, April 9: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, expressing satisfaction over the strengthening ties between the two nations. During the meeting, he conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed various crucial areas of bilateral partnership.
Jaishankar shared on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “It was a pleasure to meet Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam. I conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Over the past year, we have seen remarkable and tangible progress in our extensive partnership.”
The minister highlighted discussions covering various aspects, including development cooperation, health, education, capacity building, mobility, technology, maritime security, and people-to-people connections. They also addressed developments in West Asia and their implications.
Jaishankar emphasized India’s deep respect for Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s steadfast commitment to the enduring friendship between India and Mauritius.
During the special meeting with Prime Minister Ramgoolam, Jaishankar provided insights into key discussion points and participated in several significant programs.
A Letter of Exchange (LoE) was signed for a Special Economic Package, reiterating India’s full commitment to the development of Mauritius’s infrastructure, health, and security.
The inauguration of 11 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs), supported by India, was also highlighted. These projects are linked to sustainable development, energy, sports, and infrastructure, showcasing India’s efforts to reach every Mauritian with development initiatives.
Additionally, the I-GOT Karmayogi portal was launched for Mauritius, marking the first time such a platform has been introduced for a partner country. This initiative aims to enhance administrative efficiency and service delivery for the public.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also noted between UGC India and Mauritius’s Higher Education Commission for collaboration.
Furthermore, the cooperation in hydrography was acknowledged, with a $45,000 royalty check for the sale of maritime maps being appreciated.
