Kolkata, August 1: The second quarter meeting of the state-level Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) for West Bengal focused on enhancing coordinated actions and intelligence sharing against drug trafficking.

According to a statement from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the meeting, held on July 30 in Kolkata, aimed to strengthen collaborative efforts against drug trafficking and promote inter-agency cooperation.

The meeting was co-chaired by the NCB’s Deputy Director General (Eastern Region) and the Inspector General of the West Bengal Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF). Representatives from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (Air Intelligence Unit, Preventive and Port), Border Security Force, National Investigation Agency, West Bengal Special Investigation Branch, Income Tax Department, Drug Controller, and State Excise participated in the discussions.

The session began with a presentation on a vision document issued by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, outlining strategic priorities to enhance coordinated efforts against drug trafficking and dismantle drug networks.

Topics discussed included the implementation of the vision document on drug control, emerging trends in drug trafficking in West Bengal, monitoring of 50 identified NDPS cases for expedited resolution, accelerating PIT-NDPS proposals, strengthening financial investigations, and dismantling organized drug trafficking networks through better coordination.

The NCB, ANTF, DRI, Kolkata Police, West Bengal Excise, and Customs presented two significant recent NDPS cases during the meeting.

Discussions focused on traffickers’ tactics, intelligence sharing, financial investigations, inter-agency coordination, and best practices for effective enforcement.

The NCB also provided insights on clandestine drug laboratories and red flag indicators for the diversion of controlled substances and precursor chemicals, aiming to enhance operational readiness among all participating agencies for swift detection and coordinated action against emerging drug threats.
