Sri Lanka Stages Impressive Comeback in Second Session Against India

Galle, August 17: The first Test match between India and Sri Lanka is underway at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. The second session of the third day was dominated by Sri Lanka, who did not lose any wickets during this period.

After struggling in the first session, where they lost five wickets for just 99 runs, the Sri Lankan team made a remarkable recovery. The partnership between Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella proved to be a headache for the Indian bowlers. In the second session, the Sri Lankan duo scored 116 runs without losing a wicket over 29 overs. By the tea break, Sri Lanka had posted a total of 214 runs for the loss of five wickets in their first innings. Dinusha was batting at 62 runs off 115 balls, while Dickwella stood firm with 71 runs from 102 balls. Indian bowlers, who had dominated the first session, struggled to find their rhythm in the second.

Sri Lanka’s innings began on a disappointing note. Nishan Fernando was dismissed without scoring. Dinesh Chandimal also failed to impress, making just 4 runs before becoming the first victim of Manav Suthar. Lahiru Kumara showed some resistance but fell to Suthar’s spin, returning to the pavilion with 27 runs. Kamindu Mendis was out for 14 runs, falling to Kuldeep Yadav.

After losing four wickets for just 59 runs, Sri Lanka appeared to be in trouble. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva attempted to stabilize the innings alongside Sonal Dinusha. The pair added 31 runs for the fifth wicket, but their partnership was short-lived. Ravindra Jadeja dealt another blow to Sri Lanka with his exceptional bowling, as de Silva misjudged a delivery and handed a catch to KL Rahul. Earlier, India had been all out for 462 runs in their first innings.
