New Delhi, August 17: In a thrilling encounter of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026, the Outer Delhi Warriors defeated Old Delhi 6 by 21 runs. The match was marked by a stellar performance from all-rounder Harsh Tyagi, whose crucial innings and disciplined bowling in the final overs proved decisive.
The Outer Delhi Warriors set a formidable target, scoring 219 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. Yajus Sharma was the standout performer, smashing 86 runs off just 36 balls. Priyansh Arya also contributed significantly with a quick 30 runs from 21 balls. Together, they forged a remarkable partnership of 120 runs for the first wicket. In the closing stages, Harsh Tyagi added a quickfire 32 runs off 15 balls, while Akshay Saini remained unbeaten on 49 runs from 23 balls.
In the bowling department, Harsh Tyagi excelled, taking three wickets for just 22 runs, restricting Old Delhi 6 to 198 runs in their chase of 220. Speaking after the match, Harsh noted, “When I came to bat, there were six overs left, and we needed to reach 200 runs. I contributed around 30 crucial runs. My first two overs with the ball were challenging, but I focused on controlling runs in the last two overs.”
Detailing his bowling strategy in the final overs, the left-arm spinner mentioned his off-season preparations for variation bowling. “During those slog overs, I knew I could concede some runs, but I trusted my preparation. I worked extensively on my yorkers and slower balls throughout the year in Delhi to confuse the batsmen.”
He added, “The most important aspect was execution. Everything I planned on the field went according to plan. I give equal importance to both my batting and bowling. I see myself as a bowling all-rounder who can bowl all his overs and score runs at a good strike rate while batting in the lower order.”
For Old Delhi 6, mystery spinner Digvijesh Rathi was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets for 25 runs in his four overs. However, he faced a penalty for violating code of conduct rule 2.5 (Level 1) due to signaling towards the opposing batsman twice during the match. Match referee Abhinav Bali imposed a 30% fine on Rathi’s match fee and awarded him two demerit points, as the player accepted his mistake and the punishment.
