Sri Charani Becomes Number One Bowler in ICC Womens T20 Rankings

Dubai, June 23: India’s left-arm spinner, Sri Charani, has reached the top of the ICC Women’s T20 bowling rankings for the first time. Her remarkable performance in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup has earned her this accolade, where she has taken 10 wickets in just three matches. The 21-year-old is currently the leading wicket-taker in the tournament.

In a high-stakes match against Pakistan, Charani claimed three wickets for just 21 runs. She followed this with an impressive performance against New Zealand, taking four wickets for 19 runs. Against South Africa, she secured another three wickets, conceding only 24 runs.

England’s Linsey Smith, who had a slow start in the World Cup, has dropped two places to third. Her teammate, Charlie Dean, has moved up to second place. Significant changes have also occurred in the rankings of several top bowlers. Former world number one Sophie Ecclestone has climbed four spots to fourth, while West Indies captain Hayley Matthews has risen nine places to eleventh.

Australia’s Kim Garth made the biggest leap, moving up 25 spots to break into the top 20. Pakistan’s captain Fatima Sana has reached 25th place, while Ireland’s Orla Prendergast has also made a notable gain, securing the 26th position.

In the batting rankings, there has been less upheaval. Australian opener Georgia Wareham has maintained her number one position despite scoring 62 runs in three World Cup innings. Her compatriot Beth Mooney has solidified her second place, narrowing the gap with the leader.

Among the standout batters, India’s Shafali Verma has climbed to sixth place. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur has moved up one spot, entering the top ten. New Zealand’s captain Sophie Devine has reached eleventh place, while Prendergast has jumped four spots to thirteenth, continuing to improve her all-round performance.

Bangladesh’s captain Nigar Sultana has also made significant strides, securing a place in the top 20. There have been no changes at the top of the all-rounders’ rankings, with Hayley Matthews remaining ahead of New Zealand’s Maddy Green.

Sri Lanka’s captain Chamari Athapaththu has moved up to third place, while Prendergast and Fatima Sana have each climbed one spot to fifth and sixth, respectively. South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp has also had a good week, rising five places to ninth after a ‘Player of the Match’ performance against India.
