
Mumbai, May 23: In a thrilling conclusion to the IPL 2026 league matches, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 55 runs. Despite this victory, SRH remains in third place on the points table.
Chasing a daunting target of 256 runs set by SRH, RCB managed to score only 200 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their 20 overs, falling short by 55 runs. Venkatesh Iyer opened the innings for RCB, scoring 44 runs off 19 balls, including 4 sixes and 4 fours. Captain Rajat Patidar contributed with 56 runs off 39 balls. Krunal Pandya and Tim David added 41 and 15 runs respectively, while Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal scored 15 and 21 runs before getting out.
For SRH, Ishan Malinga was the standout bowler, taking 2 wickets for 33 runs in 4 overs. Sakib Hussain and Travis Head each claimed one wicket.
Earlier, winning the toss and opting to bat first, SRH posted an impressive total of 255 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Ishan Kishan was the star performer, scoring 79 runs off 46 balls, featuring 3 sixes and 8 fours. Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen also made significant contributions, scoring 56 and 51 runs respectively. Nitish Reddy finished the innings with an unbeaten 29 runs off 12 balls.
RCB’s Rasikh Salam Dar took 2 wickets for 52 runs in 4 overs, while SuYash Sharma and Krunal Pandya each took one wicket.
Ishan Kishan was named Player of the Match for the second consecutive game.
This match marked the end of the league stage for both teams, who have already secured their spots in the playoffs. RCB leads the table with 18 points from 14 matches, followed by Gujarat Titans in second place, and SRH in third, also with 18 points from 14 matches.
