Spain Triumphs Over France to Secure FIFA World Cup Final Spot

New Delhi, July 15: Spain has secured its place in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2026. In a stunning semifinal match, Spain defeated France 2-0. Following this loss, France will now compete for third place against the team that lost the other semifinal.

This marks the second time Spain has reached the World Cup final in its history. The first was in 2010, when the team won the championship. The match began with France displaying aggressive play, with Kylian Mbappé attempting to pressure Spain’s defense. However, Spain found success first.

In an attempt to stop 19-year-old player Lamine Yamal, French defender Lucas Digne committed a foul, resulting in a penalty for Spain. In the 22nd minute, Mikel Oyarzabal converted the penalty flawlessly, giving Spain a 1-0 lead. France made several attempts to equalize in the first half, but could not penetrate Spain’s defense.

In the second half, Spain dominated the game. In the 58th minute, Pedro Porro scored a brilliant goal, extending Spain’s lead to 2-0. The pressure of trailing 0-2 was evident in France’s performance. Coach Didier Deschamps brought on players Rayan Cherki and Marcus Thuram to change the game’s dynamics, but to no avail.

Mbappé made multiple attempts to breach Spain’s defense, but Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón stood firm like a rock. France failed to score in the allotted 90 minutes, and Spain claimed the match 2-0, securing their spot in the final. Spain will now face the winner of the other semifinal between Argentina and England.
