New Zealand Triumphs Over West Indies in Second ODI with 5-Wicket Victory

Georgetown, July 15: New Zealand showcased an impressive performance in the second ODI, defeating West Indies by 5 wickets. Chasing a target of 139 runs set by the Caribbean team, New Zealand achieved the goal in just 32.4 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process.

The start for New Zealand was rocky. Will Young managed to score 28 runs off 31 balls, hitting 5 boundaries before getting out. Mark Chapman faced misfortune as he was run out without scoring. Henry Nicholls contributed only 17 runs, and Daryl Mitchell also failed to capitalize on a good start, scoring 28 runs off 43 balls before being dismissed.

Dean Foxcroft was dismissed for a duck. However, Tom Latham and Michael Bracewell steadied the innings, ensuring no further setbacks for New Zealand and guiding the team to victory. Latham remained unbeaten with 37 runs off 61 balls, while Bracewell added 24 runs not out. In the bowling department for West Indies, Khary Pierre took 2 wickets for 33 runs, and Alzarri Joseph claimed one wicket.

Earlier, the performance of the West Indies batsmen was disappointing, as the entire team was bowled out for just 138 runs in 36 overs. Akeem Auguste scored only 18 runs. Kacey Carty also struggled, getting bowled by Mitchell Santner for 18 runs. Shai Hope managed just 7 runs, and Sherfane Rutherford was out for 8 runs. John Campbell was the standout performer for West Indies, scoring 43 runs with 4 fours and a six off 41 balls before falling to Santner. Aamir Jangoo contributed 24 runs.

For New Zealand, Jaden Lenox was the star bowler, taking 5 wickets for just 19 runs. Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner each took 2 wickets. With this victory, New Zealand leveled the five-match ODI series at 1-1.
