SP MLA Ravidas Mehrotra Criticizes Central and UP Governments Over Lack of Action on Pahalgam Attack

Lucknow, April 22: Samajwadi Party MLA Ravidas Mehrotra launched a strong attack on both the central and state governments on Wednesday, addressing several pressing issues.

Speaking to reporters, Mehrotra stated, “It has been a year since the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, yet there has been no concrete action against the perpetrators. The central government has neither apprehended the attackers nor succeeded in neutralizing them.”

Mehrotra highlighted that following the Pahalgam attack, the Indian Army had retaliated by targeting several terrorist hideouts within Pakistan. He claimed that the Army was prepared for further action but was compelled to declare a ceasefire due to international pressure, particularly from the United States. He asserted that had this ceasefire not occurred, the situation could have been different.

Discussing law and order in Uttar Pradesh, Mehrotra referenced the alleged rape and murder of a teenager in Ghazipur. He accused the government of failing to maintain law and order, stating that when a delegation from the Samajwadi Party visited the victim’s family, they were also attacked. He described the situation in the state as resembling ‘jungle raj.’

He further criticized the government for its failure to ensure women’s safety, claiming that criminals have become emboldened. According to him, attacks on police and political representatives indicate that the fear of law has dissipated.

On the issue of cow protection, Mehrotra accused the government of allowing the highest number of cow killings and meat exports in Uttar Pradesh. He referenced the campaign by Shankaracharya to declare the cow as ‘Rajmata’ and stated that the government has failed to take substantial steps in this direction.

Responding to a controversial statement made about women, he condemned it, asserting that no MP should make such remarks, as it disrespects women.

Mehrotra raised concerns about the use of central agencies, alleging that raids are conducted to harass opposition leaders. He cited Mamata Banerjee’s case in West Bengal as an example of such actions. However, he emphasized the importance of respecting Supreme Court decisions.

As for the upcoming elections, he mentioned that the first phase of voting in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu is scheduled for Thursday. He claimed that the BJP will face a significant defeat in these states.
