South Africa Sets New T20 World Cup Record Against Canada

Ahmedabad, February 9: South Africa scored 213 runs for the loss of four wickets in their ninth match against Canada during the T20 World Cup 2026. This marks the sixth time South Africa has crossed the 200-run mark in T20 World Cup history.

The team has now achieved this milestone six times, while India ranks second with three instances. The West Indies also share this record with India. England and Sri Lanka have accomplished this feat twice each.

This total is South Africa’s second-highest in T20 World Cup matches. The team’s highest score remains 229 runs, made against England in 2016 at Wankhede Stadium, where they lost four wickets. In 2009, they scored 211 runs against Scotland, losing five wickets, and in 2016, they posted 209 runs against Afghanistan, also at Wankhede, losing five wickets.

In the match on Monday, South Africa reached 213 runs with a strong opening partnership of 70 runs off 41 balls between Quinton de Kock and captain Aiden Markram. Markram scored 59 runs off 32 balls before being dismissed, while Quinton contributed 25 runs. Ryan Rickelton also added 33 runs to the team’s total.

At one point, the team had lost four wickets for just 138 runs. However, Tristan Stubbs and David Miller formed a crucial fifth-wicket partnership, scoring 75 runs off 37 balls, which propelled the team past the 200-run mark. Miller remained unbeaten with 39 runs, while Stubbs finished with 34 runs not out. From the opposition, Ansh Patel took the most wickets with three, while Dilpreet Bajwa claimed one.
