New Delhi, July 20: Amidst the ‘Chalo Parliament’ march organized by the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Geetanjali, emphasized that this movement is not just about protests or hunger strikes. It aims to address crucial issues related to education reform and the future of the nation.
Geetanjali stated, “Today is significant, but it is not the end. This struggle will continue. It is essential that education reform remains a priority in India, so that our youth can realize their potential. Only then can India emerge as a global leader and guide.”
During the protest, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke reiterated their demands. He called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and insisted that families of students who have committed suicide should receive compensation of one crore rupees. Additionally, he demanded the immediate release of Sonam Wangchuk.
Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan, leader of the Azad Samaj Party (KR) and MP, also supported the demonstration. He noted that the youth of the country are now aware of their rights and are taking to the streets to voice their concerns.
Azad stated, “The youth are doing their part, and the police are fulfilling their duties. However, the truth is that the fear that once resided within the youth has dissipated. When fear is gone, individuals stand firmly for their rights.”
He urged the government to seriously consider the demands of the youth. He highlighted the need for prompt action regarding issues like paper leaks, the education system, and the future of students. Ignoring the discontent of the youth would not be prudent for any government, he warned.
Azad mentioned that his party has consistently supported this movement. He encouraged party workers to rise above party lines and advocate for the youth’s issues.
CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat also backed the protest, criticizing the central government. She stated that this movement is about holding the government accountable and addressing its responsibilities towards citizens. She pointed out that alleged irregularities in the education system have adversely affected millions of students and youth, which is why the demand for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation has arisen.
Karat accused the government of not taking citizens’ problems and the future of the youth seriously. She emphasized that in a democracy, the government must be accountable to the public and should show sensitivity towards student-related issues.
