Sona Mohapatra Honors Her Roots on Utkal Divas

Mumbai, April 1: Renowned singer Sona Mohapatra has made headlines worldwide with her powerful voice. On the occasion of Utkal Divas, she paid heartfelt tribute to her roots in Odisha, highlighting the state’s rich artistic heritage.

Sona shared a photo on her Instagram, revealing her artistic origins. She wrote, “This is Raghurajpur, an artist village in my state of Odisha. Here, art is not just created; it is passed down through generations. I hail from this sacred land, where art is not a profession but a prayer and devotion.”

She explained that each home in Raghurajpur functions like a small workshop, with many artists having won national awards. Each artist is a guardian of centuries-old traditions, keeping alive the crafts of patachitra, sculpture, and other traditional arts.

On Utkal Divas (Odisha Foundation Day), Sona honored her roots, stating, “In the land of Odisha, art reflects unparalleled skill, depth, discipline, and soul. Here, we do not just embrace beauty; we become beauty itself.”

Along with her post, Sona included a special song titled “Neelamani.” She shared details about the song, saying, “This song was released by me and Ramsampath. It is in the Sambalpuri dialect and is a devotional song dedicated to Lord Krishna.”

Raghurajpur, located in the Puri district of Odisha, is a famous heritage craft village where every home is inhabited by artists. It is primarily known for traditional patachitra painting, sculptures, and other forms of traditional art. For generations, these artists have preserved their craft.

The village is also a hub for the renowned Gotipua dance troupes, a precursor to Odissi dance. It is situated near Chandannpur on the Puri-Bhubaneswar highway, approximately 14 km from Puri.
