Sleeper Bus Catches Fire After Collision with Trailer in Bikaner

Bikaner witnessed a major accident averted on Wednesday morning when a sleeper bus carrying passengers caught fire after colliding with a stationary trailer.

The incident occurred around 5:15 am near the Shri Dungargarh area on the highway connecting Jaipur to Bikaner. The bus hit a trailer laden with fodder that had stopped abruptly on the road following a collision between a truck ahead and the trailer.

The impact was so severe that fire broke out immediately in the front section of the bus. Flames spread rapidly inside, causing panic among the passengers. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus’s automatic locking system engaged, trapping passengers inside as the main doors failed to open.

Fortunately, bystanders acted quickly to open the emergency exit at the rear of the bus, enabling all passengers to escape safely. Locals noted that without this emergency exit, the situation could have resulted in a tragic loss of life.

Despite the intensity of the fire, the timely evacuation prevented casualties. The bus driver sustained injuries and received first aid on-site before being referred to a hospital in Bikaner.

Fire brigade teams arrived promptly and managed to control the flames after considerable effort. The fire completely destroyed the sleeper bus, the fodder-laden trailer, and all passengers’ belongings.

Traffic on the national highway was halted for nearly two hours following the accident. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the trailer stopping in the middle of the road and the subsequent collision.
