Simi Garewal shares memories of her first love with Jamnagars Maharaja, recalling a passionate yet complicated relationship.

Mumbai, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Simi Garewal, renowned for her performances in films like “Karz” and “Mera Naam Joker,” recently opened up about her early love life. In an interview, she revealed that she fell in love at the tender age of 17 with Maharaja Shatrusaly Singhji from Jamnagar. Their relationship lasted for nearly three years, filled with cherished memories.
Born on October 17, 1947, in Ludhiana, Punjab, Simi’s full name is Simrita Garewal. Her father, J.S. Garewal, served as a Brigadier in the Indian Army. Simi pursued her education in England, where she also began her acting career. She made her debut in the 1960s, appearing in films such as “Johar Mehmood in Goa.” Her breakthrough came with movies like “Do Badan” and “Saathi,” which earned her recognition in the industry. A significant milestone in her career was her role in Raj Kapoor’s “Mera Naam Joker,” along with a notable appearance in Satyajit Ray’s “Aranyer Din Ratri.”
Reflecting on her first love, Simi shared that the Maharaja introduced her to a world of animals, sports, and gourmet food. Their bond deepened over time, but possessiveness crept into the relationship, which she described as toxic. Looking back, she expressed a sense of nostalgia, noting how possessiveness can alter the dynamics of a relationship.
In 1970, Simi married Ravi Mohan, a businessman from Delhi, but the marriage did not last long. She later remarked that they were not the right partners for each other, and the long-distance nature of their relationship contributed to their eventual divorce. Despite the separation, Simi maintains a close relationship with his family.
After establishing herself in films, Simi also made a name for herself on television with her popular show “Rendezvous with Simi Garewal.” The show featured conversations with celebrities, business leaders, and other notable figures about their lives, love, and careers. Guests included Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aishwarya Rai.
Throughout her career, Simi has received numerous accolades, including the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for “Do Badan” in 1967 and “Saathi” in 1969. In 2010, she was honored with the Milestone Achievement Award from the Indian Television Academy, followed by a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
