Washington, April 26: A shooting incident occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner held at the Washington Hilton Hotel, resulting in one arrest. Shortly after the event, President Donald Trump held a press conference attended by Vice President J.D. Vance, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanch, FBI Director Kash Patel, and other senior officials. Kash Patel requested information from witnesses regarding the incident.
Blanch stated, “Tonight, you witnessed both the worst and best of this country. You saw the cowardly act of a man that the President just spoke about. But you also saw the best, as law enforcement did exactly what they were supposed to do.”
He added, “Given the suspect’s behavior, the charges should be clear. However, as you will hear, there will be multiple charges related to gun possession and whatever else we can attribute to this man.”
FBI Director Kash Patel urged the public to share any information related to the incident, stating that the FBI is investigating ballistic evidence and a long gun found at the scene while interviewing witnesses.
“No information is too small; no detail is insignificant. We will investigate everything. We will also interview those present, and if anyone has information, please come forward to law enforcement—FBI, Metropolitan Police Department,” he said.
It is believed that the suspect was a guest at the Washington Hilton. Metropolitan Police Department Interim Chief Jeffrey Carroll mentioned during the press conference, “Initial information suggests he was a guest at the hotel. We have secured the room and will thoroughly investigate what occurred inside.”
President Trump noted that the suspect attacked from a distance of 50 yards, indicating he was far from the room. It remains unclear how the armed individual gained access to the venue.
When asked if he would reconsider indoor events following this incident, Trump replied, “It is what it is. The room was very, very secure.” He further praised the quick response of the Secret Service agents.
