Shivraj Singh Chouhan Launches PM Gram Sadak Yojana-4 in Srinagar, Expanding 1,600 km Network with 330 New Roads

New Delhi, April 27: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will inaugurate the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana-4, Batch-2 at a special event at SKICC in Srinagar on Tuesday.

The event will also be attended by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Chaudhary, and other senior leaders. This initiative is seen not just as a government event but as a collective commitment to development.

Since 2000, the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana has constructed 3,328 roads in Jammu and Kashmir, creating a total road network of 19,851 kilometers, along with 257 bridges. Under the new phase, 330 additional roads will be built, extending approximately 1,600 kilometers. The project is estimated to cost ₹3,550 crores and will benefit 363 villages.

Minister Chouhan emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government is focused on actionable outcomes rather than mere announcements. The aim is to extend roads and facilities to the most remote villages.

The program will commence at 11 AM on April 28. During this event, the central minister will also hand over the approval letter for the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana-4, Batch-2 to the Chief Minister. Additionally, approvals will be issued under the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission, aimed at empowering women economically.

Currently, there are approximately 96,000 self-help groups, 7,500 village organizations, and 650 cluster-level federations active in Jammu and Kashmir, bolstering the rural economy. Initiatives focusing on skill development, employment, and women’s leadership are fostering an environment of confidence and income growth in villages.

Farmers are also benefiting from various schemes in the agriculture sector, such as PM-Kisan, Crop Insurance Scheme, Agricultural Infrastructure Fund, Horticulture Mission, Farmers’ Producer Organizations, e-NAM, and Micro Irrigation schemes.

Overall, Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s visit conveys a message of trust, participation, and development for farmers, rural families, and women.
