The stakes were high; the winner would not only become the world champion but also etch their name in the annals of T20 cricket history. It was India that emerged victorious.

With this triumph, India secured its place as the first T20 World Cup champion. Defeating Pakistan was not a new occurrence for India, but this particular victory remains one of the most memorable moments in Indian cricket history. The young team, led by captain MS Dhoni, celebrated the win with pride as they waved the Indian flag, filling millions of cricket fans with immense joy.

At that time, T20 cricket was still gaining traction. Many considered the Indian team a weak contender in this format, with little expectation of a championship win. However, under Dhoni’s leadership, the team showcased remarkable skill and youthful exuberance, ultimately seizing the title. This victory elevated the excitement surrounding T20 cricket to new heights.

In the match, captain MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. Gautam Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan opened the innings for India. For India, RP Singh and Irfan Pathan were standout bowlers, each taking 3 wickets. Joginder Sharma claimed 2 wickets, while Sreesanth took 1. The final over of the match was particularly thrilling. India needed just one wicket for victory, while Pakistan required 13 runs. Misbah-ul-Haq, who had brought Pakistan close to victory, was the key player for the opposition.

Dhoni entrusted Joginder Sharma with the final over. The first ball was a wide, but Sharma quickly regained his composure. Misbah hit a six on the second ball, leaving Pakistan needing 6 runs from the last three balls. On the third ball, Misbah attempted a shot towards fine leg, but Sreesanth made a memorable catch, sealing India’s historic win.
