Beijing: Shigatse’s total import-export value reached 8.48 billion yuan in 2025, driven by continuous policy support to promote foreign trade, according to recent information from the Lhasa Customs Work Conference.
The value of general trade, including cross-border e-commerce, stood at 4.48 billion yuan, while border trade accounted for 2.83 billion yuan. Additionally, imports and exports under bonded logistics were valued at 376 million yuan, and processing trade reached 676 million yuan.
In 2025, the number of enterprises engaged in import and export activities in Shigatse rose to 226, marking a 12.4 percent increase compared to 2024. Private enterprises played a key role in foreign trade and emerged as the main drivers of this growth.
Enterprises with foreign investment reported an import-export turnover of 613 million yuan, a remarkable 65-fold increase from the previous year. This reflects a rapid expansion in foreign investment attraction and market capacity, along with a growing number of foreign trade operators in the region.
Leveraging its strategic location near South Asia, Shigatse has been rapidly strengthening its rail, road, and air transport networks. In 2025, ports in Shigatse exported 12,938 domestically produced new energy vehicles, showing a 6.8 percent increase over 2024.
Moreover, Shigatse continues to deepen its integration with the high-quality “Belt and Road” initiative, steadily expanding its circle of foreign trade partner countries.
