Dhaka, March 21: Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, delivered an emotional and resolute message to her supporters on Saturday. She expressed her willingness to sacrifice herself for the country if necessary, stating that the true joy of Eid will only come when the Awami League achieves victory.
In a statement shared on X, Hasina emphasized her dedication to the “freedom of the people” of Bangladesh, despite being away from the country. She noted that this month of restraint teaches humanity and tolerance, encouraging people to share their happiness with others. Hasina expressed a desire to create a world based on mutual respect and harmony.
“Even while away from my homeland, on this blessed day of Eid, I pray for the well-being of every citizen. Eid should be a true festival for every hardworking individual. I have always strived to ensure that my country’s people have their basic needs met, so they do not fall victim to poverty or conspiracies, both domestically and abroad,” she wrote.
She pointed out that it has become evident that a significant conspiracy has affected the “fate of the poor people of Bangladesh.” The former Prime Minister accused the government of turning the country into a prison since August 5, 2024, with “free-thinking” writers, journalists, and political activists imprisoned at both national and local levels.
“I express my sympathy and sorrow for these innocent people and their families. Even though I am not physically present with you, rest assured that, by the grace of the Almighty, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s daughter will not hesitate to sacrifice her life for your freedom and the people of this country. The true joy of Eid will come with our moment of victory,” she stated.
Criticizing the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, Hasina remarked that the oppressive policies of Yunus’s regime, coupled with ongoing tensions and conflicts in the Middle East and other regions, have led to a challenging global economy. Bangladesh is also feeling the impact of this recession, resulting in the poor struggling to lead normal lives.
Highlighting the dire situation in Bangladesh, Hasina appealed to the wealthy in society to stand with those in need, ensuring that every person’s life is filled with joy and the sacred happiness of Eid.
