Semiconductor Project Approval Boosts Indias Self-Reliance Efforts

New Delhi, May 6: Ashok Mehta, founder and chairman of Suchi Semicon, expressed pride on Wednesday following the approval of their semiconductor project by the central cabinet. He stated that this development will significantly contribute to India’s self-reliance.

Mehta emphasized that semiconductors are at the core of everything around us, from cars and factory machines to smartphones and defense equipment. He noted that achieving this within India is not merely about production; it is also about ensuring that the country never has to rely on others for such a crucial component.

Suchi Semicon plans to invest approximately ₹868 crores in a new plant located in Surat, Gujarat. This facility will serve as an OSAT (Outsource Semiconductor Assembly and Test) plant.

The plant aims to meet both domestic and global demand in the fields of power electronics, analog ICs, and industrial systems.

Mehta stated, “Suchi Semicon is fully committed to the National Semiconductor Mission and is dedicated to making a meaningful contribution to establish India as a reliable and self-sufficient semiconductor manufacturing hub.”

Previously, Suchi Semicon established an OSAT facility in Surat with an annual capacity of over 1,033 million chips, producing various applications used in power electronics, analog ICs, and industrial systems.

Additionally, the cabinet has approved the semiconductor plant of Crystal Matrix Limited. This facility, to be built in Dholera, Gujarat, will focus on compound semiconductor fabrication and assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP), with a special emphasis on manufacturing mini/micro-LED display modules. It will also provide GaN foundry services, including epitaxy on six-inch wafers.

Both plants will involve an investment of around ₹3,936 crores and are expected to create jobs for 2,230 skilled professionals.
