Srinagar, August 11: Security forces have initiated a search operation in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir after suspicious activity was reported near a tunnel construction site on Tuesday.
According to officials, a security guard stationed at the construction site observed unusual activity early in the morning and fired three to four warning shots as a precaution.
Authorities confirmed that there have been no reports of casualties or property damage. Following this incident, around 6 AM, a joint search operation was launched by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Special Operations Group, and CRPF in the Bhata Durian, Sangiyot, and surrounding forested areas. They stated that there has been no exchange of fire or confrontation between security forces and militants so far.
A large-scale joint search operation was conducted near the tunnel in the Mendhar sector of Poonch following reports of suspicious activity. Additional operations are also ongoing in Surankot and Mankot.
In Rajouri district, operations have intensified in border areas and around Nowshera. This decision comes after intelligence inputs and local reports of suspicious individuals in village areas.
These operations are being carried out by the National Rifles, the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group, and the CRPF. High-tech equipment, including drones and sniffer dogs, has been deployed to clear dense forests and rugged mountain paths.
In the past, security forces have conducted extensive joint cordon and search operations in Poonch and Rajouri districts following alerts regarding suspicious activities and security threats near the Line of Control.
Currently, security forces have intensified coordinated, intelligence-based cordon and search operations in the Pir Panjal region, focusing on specific rural areas and densely forested regions in both Poonch and Rajouri districts.
