New Delhi, March 24: World number one Carlos Alcaraz has been eliminated from the Miami Open. He lost to 36th-ranked Sebastian Korda in the third round. The match lasted two hours and 14 minutes, with Korda defeating Alcaraz 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. After his victory, Korda expressed that he had to wait a long time for this win.
Korda stated, βIt feels great. I had to go a long way to achieve this victory. I faced more pressure than I expected, but I am happy with how I played and maintained my composure throughout the match. I kept my confidence in tough situations and played really well in the end.β
Korda appeared dominant from the start. In the second set, he was close to victory at 5-3, but lost his service, allowing Alcaraz a chance to reach the decisive set and momentarily shift the match’s momentum.
Under pressure, Korda remained calm. The 25-year-old broke Alcaraz’s serve at 4-3 in the third set. He secured the match with a service that Alcaraz could not return on his second match point.
Earlier, Korda had completely controlled the first set, hitting 12 aces and consistently applying pressure on Alcaraz with his aggressive style. Despite losing the second set, he did not give up and effectively adjusted his game, including timely serve-and-volley tactics.
This victory marks Korda’s first win over Alcaraz.
As for Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish player came into the Miami Open in excellent form. He had won the Australian Open earlier this year, securing his seventh Grand Slam title and completing a career Grand Slam. Before the Miami Open, his only loss was to Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals at Indian Wells. Following Indian Wells, Alcaraz has also exited the Miami Open early.
