Haridwar, June 28: Chandrashekhar Azad, the Member of Parliament from the Nagina constituency in Uttar Pradesh, has raised alarming questions regarding the safety of temples in light of recent theft incidents at the Ram Temple. He expressed concern, stating that if even temples are not safe, then where can one find security and truth?
During a media interaction in Haridwar, Azad emphasized that if people are unafraid to commit theft in sacred places, it raises serious doubts about safety elsewhere. He questioned, “If looting and theft can occur at the feet of God, what place can be considered secure?”
In a separate incident, Azad was reportedly stopped by police in Haridwar while attempting to visit the family of a Dalit youth who was murdered. Supporters of the MP claimed that the police prevented him from proceeding.
Commenting on this situation, Azad noted that the incident has caused significant distress among the community. He stated that the family has called upon him to be their voice, and they wish to meet peacefully. However, he highlighted the prevailing atmosphere of fear, which he believes must come to an end. Azad asserted that everyone in the country has the constitutional right to protest peacefully.
Recently, Azad spoke out on social media about the brutal murder of Ketan Lal, an 18-year-old Dalit youth from Deval village in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand. He described the murder as a matter of shame and concern for the entire nation, driven by caste-based hatred. According to family accounts, Ketan was lured under false pretenses, held captive, and brutally beaten throughout the night with sticks and belts, ultimately leading to his death in front of his girlfriend. The accused even threatened the family, saying, “Take your son away from here.” Azad condemned this act as not merely a murder but an assault on the Constitution, equality, and humanity.
He further stated that if a Dalit youth can be killed merely for daring to love a girl from a so-called upper caste, it underscores the persistent threat posed by casteist mentality to both society and the system.
