New Delhi, August 9: A Russian attack in Dnipro has severely damaged one of Ukraine’s largest medical warehouses. This incident has jeopardized essential medical supplies for the IRC and other humanitarian organizations. Following the attack, a statement from the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has emerged.
On Sunday, Ghebreyesus stated that the WHO’s humanitarian warehouse in Dnipro was destroyed in the attack. He shared his remarks on the social media platform X, noting, “Last Friday, the WHO humanitarian warehouse in Dnipro was attacked and devastated. So far, there are no reports of casualties. A WHO staff member and a driver were on-site the day before to assist with supply retrieval. The team successfully evacuated 130 out of 300 pallets before the attack.”
He further emphasized, “The warehouse contained humanitarian medical supplies for frontline health centers, particularly WHO’s emergency health supplies. Attacks on health facilities must cease. Otherwise, people will be deprived of life-saving health services. Wars have rules, one of which is the protection of health!”
Meanwhile, Ukraine has reached an agreement with the United States regarding the monthly supply of interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system. However, citing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrinform news agency reported on Saturday that this supply remains insufficient.
Speaking to reporters in Belgrade, Zelensky confirmed that Washington would provide Ukraine with interceptor missiles each month. However, he stressed that the quantity is not enough to meet the country’s air defense needs.
According to Xinhua news agency, Zelensky mentioned that the number of interceptor missiles Ukraine is set to receive in 2026 will be lower than in 2025. However, he did not provide specific figures.
Earlier reports indicated that during a press conference in Kyiv with NATO leaders, Zelensky stated that there has been a decrease in the actual delivery of interceptor missiles from allies, primarily due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
In July, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism that Russia and Ukraine might be nearing a peace agreement. He stated that after recent discussions with both leaders, he is confident that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky now wish to end the war.
Before a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara ahead of the NATO summit, Trump mentioned that he had lengthy conversations with both Putin and Zelensky and anticipates progress in the coming weeks.
