PM Modi Pays Tribute to Goddess Skandamata on Navratris Fifth Day

On the fifth day of Navratri, PM Modi honored Goddess Skandamata with a Sanskrit verse, celebrating her divine power and significance.

New Delhi, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the fifth day of Navratri by honoring Goddess Skandamata on the social media platform X. He shared a Sanskrit verse, expressing reverence for the deity.

The verse shared by PM Modi reads, “या देवी सर्वभूतेषु शक्ति-रूपेण संस्थिता, नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः.” This translates to a heartfelt salute to the goddess who embodies strength in all living beings.

This particular Sanskrit shloka is derived from Chapter Five of the Durga Saptashati (Devi Mahatmyam), which recounts how the goddess manifested in various forms to protect the world. In this context, the gods praised her power and diverse forms through this hymn.

The deities acknowledged, “O Goddess! You reside as energy, strength, and power within every creature of this universe. I bow to you repeatedly.”

On this day, devotees worship Skandamata, the mother of Lord Skanda (Kartikeya). She is often depicted riding a lion and seated on a lotus, earning her the title Padmasana Devi. Skandamata is portrayed with four arms, holding a lotus in two hands and a gesture of blessing or fearlessness in another.

The goddess is fond of the color yellow, and offerings of bananas and yellow flowers are said to please her. Worshiping Skandamata is believed to awaken the Vishuddha chakra, leading to happiness, peace, progeny, and liberation.

According to mythology, the goddess gave birth to Kartikeya, also known as Skanda, as the wife of Lord Shiva, which is why she is revered as Skandamata.
