Russia Condemns US-Israeli Attacks on Irans Nuclear Infrastructure

Moscow, March 23: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation regarding the situation in the Persian Gulf. During this discussion, Moscow emphasized the urgent need to end hostilities.

According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov and Araghchi discussed the deteriorating security situation in the region, exacerbated by attacks from the United States and Israel.

Lavrov deemed the US-Israeli assaults on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, including the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, completely unacceptable. He noted that these attacks pose risks to the safety of Russian personnel and could lead to catastrophic environmental consequences for all countries in the region.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated, “Both sides expressed concern over the dangerous escalation of conflict provoked by Washington and Tel Aviv, extending to the Caspian region. The Russian side stressed the immediate need to end the conflict and seek a political solution that considers the legitimate interests of all parties, especially Iran. Russia will continue to uphold this stance in the United Nations Security Council.”

The statement also mentioned that Araghchi thanked the Russian leadership for providing resources and other assistance, including humanitarian aid, on behalf of the Iranian leadership.

The Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement highlighted, “The US-Israeli duo is conducting large-scale attacks on Iranian military, civilian, and most dangerously, nuclear facilities without regard for civilian casualties or potential radiological and environmental consequences. Despite claims of the complete destruction of Iran’s nuclear program due to US airstrikes last June, another attack occurred on the morning of March 21.”

Furthermore, the statement asserted, “This is a blatant violation of international law, the United Nations, and the IAEA Charter, as well as relevant resolutions from the United Nations Security Council and the IAEA General Conference. It is the responsibility of the entire international community, including the leadership of the United Nations and the IAEA, to immediately evaluate these irresponsible actions fairly and without compromise. These actions pose a real threat of devastating consequences for the entire Middle East and clearly aim to further undermine peace, stability, and security in the region.”
