New Delhi, May 11: The renowned ‘Royal Lychee’ from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, is set to make its way to markets across the country, including the capital, New Delhi. After a long wait and unpredictable weather, the harvesting of this prized fruit has begun in earnest as the lychees ripen.
The famous lychee orchards located in the large Idgah complex of Muzaffarpur have become bustling hubs of activity. It is reported that this orchard is among the first to produce the Royal Lychee. Local farmers are not only supplying to nearby markets but are also sending their lychees to the Delhi mandi. Just two weeks ago, there were concerns about the crop’s viability.
Intense heat followed by hailstorms had raised worries among farmers. However, recent weather changes over the past ten days have improved the size and sweetness of the fruit. The orchards in the Idgah complex are now lively, with both farmers and traders expressing excitement. A large number of laborers have been employed to carefully harvest, sort, and pack the lychees into baskets. Farmers believe that this year’s fruit quality is significantly better, leading to optimistic expectations for good prices in metropolitan markets.
Currently, the harvest of Royal Lychee has commenced, with the ‘China Lychee’ harvest expected to follow soon. Reports indicate that other major orchards will also begin extensive harvesting in the next two to three days. The lychee season is short, which increases activity among traders during this time. Muzaffarpur’s Royal Lychee has a unique reputation worldwide. Although the weather initially posed challenges, the vibrant color of the lychees is now uplifting the spirits of the farmers.
