Rising Tensions in the Middle East: Indian Embassy Urges Citizens in Iran to Stay Alert

Tehran, March 9: Tensions have escalated in the Gulf region following a joint military attack by the United States and Israel on Iran. In light of the situation, the Indian government has once again issued an advisory urging its citizens residing in Iran to remain indoors.

The Indian Embassy in Iran has released new guidelines advising citizens to stay vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel. They have emphasized the importance of self-care, minimizing travel, and maintaining contact with the embassy.

This advisory primarily advises Indians to coordinate with the embassy before traveling to any land borders in Iran. Citizens are warned against attempting to exit Iran’s borders without prior coordination with the embassy. Once outside Iranian territory, the embassy will be unable to provide assistance, especially if issues arise when entering a third country.

Given the seriousness of the situation, the embassy has recommended avoiding unnecessary travel, staying indoors, and keeping an eye on local news while remaining in contact with them.

Since January 2026, multiple advisories have been issued, urging Indians to leave Iran, refrain from travel, and prioritize their safety. The advisory from March 3, 2026, stressed the importance of staying indoors and remaining vigilant.

The embassy has also provided emergency helpline numbers and an email address for contact in case of emergencies. The helpline numbers are: +98 912 810 9115, +98 912 810 9102, +98 912 810 9109, and +98 993 217 9359. Additionally, citizens can reach out via email at cons.tehran@mea.gov.in.
