Noida, February 27: Rinku Singh, a star player of the Indian cricket team, faced a tragic loss as his father passed away on Friday at a private hospital in Noida. Prem Manohar Gupta, Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), expressed his condolences on this unfortunate event.
Speaking to the media, Gupta stated, “The untimely demise of Rinku Singh’s father is deeply saddening. He was not very old and had been battling cancer. May God grant him a place in His divine abode and give strength to the family to endure this sorrow. All members of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association stand with the family during this difficult time.”
He added, “I have not spoken to him yet. We will visit him on the day of the peace prayer or the thirteenth day. This loss is irreplaceable, but those associated with sports tend to have strong mental resilience. Therefore, I hope Rinku will recover from this grief soon.”
Gupta mentioned, “The family was experiencing a joyful time as Rinku’s wedding was arranged. He is also part of the Indian team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.”
Devjeet Sekhia, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), also expressed his sorrow over Rinku Singh’s loss, stating, “On behalf of the BCCI, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Rinku Singh and his entire family during this challenging time.”
Rinku’s father, Khan Chand Singh, had been struggling with severe liver cancer. He was admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida on February 21 after his condition worsened and was placed on ventilator support. He breathed his last at 4:36 AM on Friday.
Before the match against Zimbabwe on Thursday in Chennai, Rinku had come to Noida to see his ailing father. He joined the team before the match but was not included in the playing eleven against Zimbabwe.
