New Delhi, March 23: Ricky Ponting, the head coach of Punjab Kings, has delivered a clear message to his players ahead of IPL 2026. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging mistakes while remaining committed to their process.
Before a practice session, Ponting stated, “I’ll keep this brief and straightforward. It feels great to be back here. It’s wonderful to see so many familiar faces again. We’ve made some changes and welcome new players.”
He highlighted that the practice session is crucial for preparing physically, technically, and mentally for their first match on the 31st.
Reflecting on the previous season, Ponting urged players to recall their contributions that made the team strong. “Last year, I emphasized that we were a good team from start to finish, and our goal was to become a great team,” he said.
Ponting motivated the players by acknowledging that mistakes are part of the game. “We all make mistakes, and that’s okay. I will make mistakes too. You will drop catches, play poor shots, and bowl bad overs. But as long as you stay committed to your knowledge and game plan, those mistakes are not failures; they are just part of the sport,” he explained.
He encouraged the players to enjoy the process and prepare for the upcoming season.
Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer and the coaching of Ricky Ponting, Punjab Kings reached the finals for the first time since 2014 in the previous season (IPL 2025), where they faced a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The team is yet to win an IPL title, and their goal for IPL 2026 is to secure their first championship.
