Remembering Yusuf Hussain: The Man Who Bet His Life Savings to Save Hansal Mehtas Career

Yusuf Hussains selfless act helped filmmaker Hansal Mehta complete his film and revitalize his career.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Yusuf Hussain, a beloved figure in Bollywood, is remembered for his remarkable contributions to cinema and his deep family ties. Born on January 21, 1948, Hussain played numerous memorable roles throughout his career, primarily in supporting parts. However, his most significant impact came off-screen when he made a life-altering decision to support his son-in-law, filmmaker Hansal Mehta, during a challenging phase in his career.

Mehta faced a critical moment while working on the film “Shahid,” which tells the story of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi. After completing two shooting schedules, financial difficulties threatened to halt the project. With mounting pressure, Mehta feared that not only would the film remain unfinished, but his career could also be jeopardized.

In this hour of need, Hussain stepped in without hesitation. He offered to use his fixed deposit savings to help fund the remaining shoot, providing Mehta with a check that enabled the film’s completion. This act of generosity not only saved the film but also led to Mehta receiving the National Film Award for Best Direction.

Yusuf Hussain’s film career included notable performances in “Dil Chahta Hai,” “Dhoom 2,” “Krrish 3,” “OMG: Oh My God,” and “Raees.” He also made his mark on television, appearing in popular series like “CID” and “Kumkum: Pyaara Sa Bandhan.”

Hussain passed away on October 30, 2021, leaving behind a legacy of love and support that resonated deeply within the film industry. His story serves as a poignant reminder of the bonds that can shape and uplift careers in the face of adversity.
