New Delhi, April 27: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured a commanding 9-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 39th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Monday. RCB captain Rajat Patidar attributed the win to his bowlers, particularly fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who laid the foundation for success with their lethal bowling during the powerplay.
In a match held at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Hazlewood claimed 4 wickets for just 12 runs in 3.3 overs, while Bhuvneshwar took 3 wickets for only 5 runs in 3 overs. Thanks to their outstanding performances, RCB bowled out DC for a mere 75 runs in 16.3 overs, finishing the match with 81 balls to spare.
At the end of the match, Patidar expressed his surprise at the wicket’s behavior, stating, “The credit goes entirely to the bowlers for their performance, especially during the powerplay—Hazlewood and Bhuvi. I think it was fantastic to see how they bowled in the right areas and managed to get some swing early on.”
When asked if the swing was more than usual, Patidar replied, “I think the swing was normal. The good thing was that we got early wickets. That’s why we managed to maintain our grip on the match. Of course, if you are playing T20 cricket on a flat pitch, you need a strong bowling unit. One bowler can win you a championship.”
Discussing the bowling strategy, RCB’s captain said, “We had already planned that if we got early wickets, each bowler would bowl three overs. We then assessed how the wicket was behaving. I think Suyaash and Sheppy (Romario Shepherd) bowled well in the right areas. Suyaash also bowled effectively; he got a good amount of spin, and I must say, his stump-to-stump bowling was really impressive.”
As the tournament approaches its crucial stages, Patidar emphasized the importance of discipline and maintaining routines, stating, “It’s essential to stick to our routines, as there’s still a long way to go. However, I think we are focusing on one match at a time. The good thing is that different players are stepping up and performing well for the team. I believe this is a positive sign for us.”
