Rakul Preet Singh Discusses Key Differences Between South Cinema and Bollywood

Mumbai, April 21: Actress Rakul Preet Singh has acted in both South Indian cinema and Bollywood. She recently shared insights about the technical differences between the two industries.

In a video posted on Instagram, Rakul openly discussed the disparities in shooting schedules between South cinema and Bollywood. She noted that in Mumbai, call times typically start between 6 AM and 7 AM and extend until 6 PM.

Rakul explained that her experiences in both industries have been quite different. “I believe the filmmaking process is nearly the same worldwide, but there are technical differences between South cinema and Hindi cinema,” she stated.

She mentioned that shooting for Telugu films usually does not occur after 6 PM. “I’m not sure if this rule still applies, as I haven’t worked on a Telugu film in the last two to three years. Previously, we would only shoot until 6 PM,” she added.

Regarding Hindi cinema, she expressed her surprise at the long shooting hours in Mumbai. “When I came here, I was astonished to find that shooting often continues late into the night. In the South, if night shoots happen, they are generally limited to 6 PM to 2 AM, not extending until morning,” she explained.

Rakul also touched on the union rules in Hindi cinema. She noted that according to certain union regulations, additional payments are required for shooting beyond designated hours. “After 6 PM, you have to pay one and a half times the usual rate. After 9 PM, the payment doubles, and if shooting continues past 2 AM, it triples,” she elaborated.

She concluded, “This is why those involved in film production earn significantly more, as late hours are not considered ideal. In my early years, I often wondered why shooting went on so late here, unaware that the South’s rules do not apply.”
