
Thiruvananthapuram, March 21: Rajesh Ramesh, a 27-year-old international quarter-miler from Tamil Nadu, showcased his dominance at the season’s first event held in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. He clinched the gold medal in the 400-meter race with a personal best time of 45.26 seconds.
During the seventh Indian Open 400-meter competition in Kerala, Ramesh’s performance surpassed his previous personal best of 45.54 seconds set in 2024. After facing a series of injuries post the 2024 Paris Olympics, Ramesh made a remarkable comeback in 2025, finishing a race in 45.75 seconds, which was his best time that season.
Manu TS, representing NCOE Thiruvananthapuram, secured second place in Race A with a time of 45.96 seconds. Delhi’s international runner, Amol Jacob, won Race C with a time of 45.99 seconds, placing third overall in the men’s category. The men’s finals were divided into three groups—A, B, and C, while the women’s finals were held in two categories—A and B.
In the women’s 400-meter race, Vithya Ramraj from Tamil Nadu took the gold with a time of 53.31 seconds. Rashdeep Kaur, representing JSW, finished second at 53.62 seconds. Both Vithya and Rashdeep secured the top two spots in Group A. Karnataka’s Vijay Kumari GK won Race B with a time of 53.55 seconds, earning her third place overall in the women’s 400-meter event. Competitions were also held for under-20 and under-18 categories for both men and women.

Women’s Under-20: 400 meters: Reshma (Uttar Pradesh) 54.84 seconds, Esha Rajesh Yadav (Maharashtra) 55.46 seconds, Dharani A (Tamil Nadu) 55.63 seconds.
Women’s Under-18: Kashish Bhagat (Maharashtra) 56.46 seconds, Nethra M (Tamil Nadu) 59.54 seconds, Chaudhary Aashaben (Gujarat) 59.62 seconds.
