Guwahati, March 31: Rajasthan Royals (RR) kicked off their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign with a resounding victory. They defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 8 wickets on Monday. Following this impressive win, captain Riyan Parag praised opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his explosive performance.
After the match, Riyan Parag stated, “The toss was a bit lucky for us. It was a red soil wicket, and there was some rain. The bowlers executed their plans well. We have prepared extensively for captaincy, and our goal is to win the trophy. We invested significant time in planning and strategy. We want to play smart cricket and adapt to the conditions, which we did today. All the bowlers performed well, and the fast bowlers were particularly effective. The Guwahati pitch suited ‘Jaddu Bhai’ well.”
Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 52 runs off just 17 balls, hitting 5 sixes and 7 fours. The 15-year-old completed his half-century in just 15 balls. His partnership of 75 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal laid the foundation for the team’s victory.
The captain further praised Suryavanshi, saying, “I tell Vaibhav to play all 14 matches and not get bothered by the field or media. I also advise the coaches to let him play freely. We were quite impressed watching him in the nets.”
In contrast, Chennai Super Kings’ captain Ruturaj Gaikwad reflected on the tough start, particularly against Jofra Archer. He noted, “The conditions were challenging initially. It wasn’t easy to play against medium pacers, and the spinners were also getting assistance. Perhaps we could have batted deeper, but it’s hard to determine what a good score is these days, so it was essential to keep playing.”
He added, “You move on from past performances. We have another match in three days. There are many young players in the team; the start was a bit nervous, but it was good to have played a match. I don’t always believe in playing aggressively, but due to the impact player rule, it’s difficult to gauge what the right score will be. It’s crucial for the batsmen to trust themselves and seize the opportunity to play their shots.”
