Jaipur, May 15: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma urged the public on Friday to transform energy conservation and fuel savings into a mass movement. He emphasized the necessity of saving petrol and diesel, stating that the solutions to future energy challenges lie solely in clean and alternative energy sources.
Addressing the Rajasthan Energy Conclave, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s leading role in solar energy production. He noted that Rajasthan is continuously strengthening its identity as a major energy supplier. The state possesses immense potential for non-conventional energy and is rapidly emerging as a hub for the green energy revolution.
Sharma asserted that energy conservation is the most economical, effective, and sustainable option for energy production. He emphasized that disciplined and prudent use of resources is key to achieving energy self-sufficiency.
Referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Nation First’ approach and the call to save every drop of fuel, the Chief Minister mentioned that the state government has issued guidelines to promote the judicious use of government vehicles and extensive energy conservation measures.
He stressed that energy conservation and fuel savings must become a public movement driven by community participation. The adoption of electric vehicles will significantly reduce carbon emissions and strengthen environmental protection efforts.
Highlighting the urgency of saving petrol and diesel, Sharma reiterated that future energy challenges can only be addressed through clean and alternative energy sources. The use of electric vehicles will notably decrease carbon emissions and bolster environmental conservation initiatives.
Inviting investors to actively participate in Rajasthan’s energy sector, Sharma stated that the state is rapidly progressing towards becoming an energy powerhouse in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.
He remarked that Rajasthan is among the most investment-friendly states in the country. Industries and investors will receive full government support and a conducive business environment. Large-scale investment proposals in solar, wind, bio-energy, pumped storage, and green hydrogen projects reflect the success of the government’s progressive policies, signaling the dawn of a new economic era for Rajasthan.
The Chief Minister also highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s targets of establishing 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
Sharma noted that Rajasthan is making rapid progress towards these goals, with an estimated solar energy potential of 828 gigawatts and wind energy potential of 284 gigawatts. The state has already established over 47 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, making it a national leader in solar project implementation.
During the current government’s term, Rajasthan has seen an increase of 24,410 megawatts in renewable energy capacity. To encourage investment in renewable energy, biofuels, energy storage, and green hydrogen, the government has launched the Rajasthan Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024.
The Chief Minister mentioned that under the PM-KUSUM scheme, small solar projects are being established on agricultural land to meet electricity demand in the agricultural sector. More than 4,000 megawatts of projects are already operational, while projects with a combined capacity of 6,500 megawatts have been allocated.
He further explained that solar parks with a capacity of 4,670 megawatts have been established through state enterprises and joint ventures, while projects exceeding 12,000 megawatts are under construction.
Energy Minister (Independent Charge) Heeralal Nagar stated that following the Prime Minister’s appeal, energy conservation and fuel efficiency have become a collective responsibility. The state government is focusing on promoting electric mobility, increasing the use of solar energy, and establishing fast-charging infrastructure throughout Rajasthan.
