Chennai, March 15: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu over the next week due to a low-pressure system in the southern region.
According to the weather department, this system is expected to mainly affect the coastal districts in the south, while most other areas in the state are likely to remain dry.
In a statement released on Saturday, the IMD indicated that light rain may occur at one or two locations in southern Tamil Nadu’s coastal districts. However, dry weather is anticipated for the rest of Tamil Nadu, as well as the Union Territories of Puducherry and Karaikal during the day.
The weather conditions are expected to remain similar on Sunday, with isolated showers possible in southern Tamil Nadu’s coastal areas, while the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to experience dry weather.
Light rain may occur in some areas of Nilgiri and a few districts in southern Tamil Nadu over the next two days. Aside from these regions, most parts of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territories of Puducherry and Karaikal are expected to remain dry during this period.
For March 17, the weather department has forecasted the possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in isolated areas of southern Tamil Nadu, northern interior districts, delta regions, and Karaikal. Dry weather is expected to continue in other areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The IMD has noted that there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in the coming days. However, slight increases in temperature may occur in some locations.
In Chennai and surrounding areas, partial cloud cover is expected on Saturday. The maximum temperature in the city is anticipated to range between 33 to 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may be between 24 to 25 degrees Celsius.
