Rain Disrupts First Day of Second Test Between South Africa and Australia
Rain affected the first day of the second Test, with South Africa losing two wickets for just 20 runs at Gqeberhas St Georges Park.

Gqeberha, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : The second Test match between South Africa and Australia at St George’s Park in Gqeberha faced significant rain disruptions on its opening day. Only 12.2 overs were played on Sunday, during which South Africa lost two wickets, managing to score just 20 runs.
The match started late due to a delayed toss, which Australia won, opting to have South Africa bat first. The home team sent out Aiden Markram and Marques Ackerman as their opening pair.
The first two overs saw no runs scored. In the third over, Markram hit a boundary, putting 4 runs on the board. However, Ackerman faced a quiet fourth over without scoring. By the end of the fifth over, Markram had contributed 2 runs and a four, bringing the team’s total to 11 runs before rain halted play again, leading to a lunch break.
After the resumption, South Africa could only add one run before Scott Boland struck in the ninth over, bowling out Markram for 11 runs, giving Australia their first breakthrough.
David Beddingham came in at number three but was caught by Alex Carey off Boland’s very first delivery, leaving South Africa at 12 runs with two wickets down. Captain Temba Bavuma, who remained not out on 4, partnered with Ackerman (not out on 5) for a brief 21-ball stand that yielded just 8 runs before rain once again interrupted play, leading to the early conclusion of the day’s activities.
By the end of the day, Boland had impressive figures of 2 wickets for just 5 runs in 3.2 overs. The Australian team, under captain Pat Cummins, aims to maintain pressure on South Africa in the following day of the match.
Australia’s lineup included Nic Maddinson, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Beau Webster, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland. South Africa’s playing XI featured Aiden Markram, Marques Ackerman, David Beddingham, Temba Bavuma (captain), Matthew Britzke, Ryan Rickelton (wicketkeeper), Vian Mulder, Marco Jansen, Simon Harmer, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje.
